The concept of economic insecurity in existing literatures: Implications for public health research

Abstract
This study summarizes related issues in the existing studies to understand the concept of economic insecurity within health studies. 1) The concept of economic insecurity is divided into objective existence, subjective perception, and emotion. 2) Actual measurement or manipulation may involve various aspects, but mainly use occupational aspects or income aspects. 3) Economic insecurity may be caused by external events, but it is also considered together with the capability of individuals to respond. 4) There are cases where the unit of measurement is the population and individual or individual household, and the observed phenomenon varies depending on the unit of measurement. The concept of economic insecurity can have various operational definitions and ranges, and the dimensions to be observed can vary depending on the measuring instrument or unit. This research proposes multi-dimensional and multi-layered approach to conceptualize economic insecurity. The relationship between economic insecurity and health in modern society, where economic insecurity is increasing and its effect on health is increasing, should be discussed in many studies from the standpoint of social determinant for health.
